@ Sharing Sessions Jobs & Careers
from Your Resume & other Career Secrets
with Henry Landry
As we see ourselves so we are! Irregardless of our
background, family or schooling, how we see our self is a reflection.
It is one of the master keys to our personality and behaviour, to how
potential employers will see us, to the kind of job you will have, to
the career we will accept and to the work we will produce. When we are
thinking JOB, we must understand the times, that is to say, the average
job lasts only an average of less than two years before movement or
change.
Understand this and you will find yourself less stressed
as the challenges and changes of career life continue in your employment
picture. If you are thinking of tomorrow, you must be thinking outside
the box and in terms of ownership. You must accept ownership of your
career life, your income levels, your asset base and your eventual freedom
from doing what you are told; by advancing to time and financial freedom.
One of the keys in today's marketplace is career networking.
Over thousands of years, nothing has bettered person to person contact.
It is vital for you to identify the people who have the power to assist
you, based on your ability to do the task that you want to achieve.
Over seventy percent of jobs are filled by information assessed, rather
than by what you know. The realization that no human is an island, means
you can make plans based on knowledge and information gathered in advance.
In career planning for today you need to be Resume ready
at all times. You need a learning for life attitude. You must try not
to burn any bridges. Times and things change the person who causes great
stress today, may be the person in a position to be a friend five years
from now. This may be difficult but friendship even if only on the level
of working together is also a master key to career success. You need
to assess personal career goal plans regularly, possibly annually. Remember,
you are in charge, not your boss, your supervisors, company policy,
or government bureaucracy. Lay offs, change, downsizing, up sizing,
moving, boss changes happen too often.
You need to ask, "Where was I five years ago, personally,
financially and in relation to loved ones, family, co-workers, and others
in my life?" As the song goes, ten years of my life went by and
I missed the starting gun. Today, even when one hears the starting gun
the course of direction changes so fast and without reason that it makes
it hard to focus on the important things in the day to day reality of
the job. Few people like everything about their job! It is important
to think in terms of what you would like to give, what you would like
to accomplish, what parts of your job you can be happy with?
The digital age is a magic time allowing for whole new
realities, much as the Internet has changed the face of our world. This
leads me to suggest "word-smithing" is a more vital task than
ever. The right combination of "key-words" is necessary
in every resume and cover letter. A few words can make the difference
between getting an interview or not. It is not about what you are capable
of doing, but rather what those in need want done at this time. How
will you bring benefit and help the present job contingency needs and
requirements? Next Ask Yourself: what are the
seven magic qualities every employer is seeking?
Do you know the application and resume Do's and Don'ts?
Do you understand Research, Internet and Phone power? How do you feel
about informational interviews? Do you understand all the legal aspects
of being hired? Are you up to, contingency employment, working in a
job only as long as the need is there?
Career challenge has changed much over the past ten
years. It is challenging and exciting.I invite you to send your questions.
With a dignity for life, let us use the vital life force we each possess
to awaken a human revolution towards security, happiness and justice
in our personal, community and career world.
